Marrakech to Aït Ben Haddou day trip

Your day begins with a warm pick-up from your riad in Marrakech. As soon as we leave the city, the scenery softens into a world of red earth, wide valleys, and peaceful Berber villages resting under the High Atlas Mountains. Our first visit is the Kasbah of Telouet, a hidden jewel deep in the Atlas. From the outside, it looks quiet and modest, but once you step inside, you discover rooms filled with beautiful painted ceilings, colorful geometric designs, and carved plaster that still carries the elegance of the Glaoui family who lived here long ago. Walking through Telouet feels like entering a forgotten palace soft light, old silence, and walls that whisper stories from another time.

A short drive from the kasbah brings us to the old Glaoui salt mines, an authentic place where Berber workers once collected salt by hand. These mines played a very important role in the region’s history, supporting caravan routes that connected southern Morocco with Marrakech. Even today, the area holds a deep cultural meaning. After leaving the mountains, the road opens into warmer, golden landscapes as we approach Aït Ben Haddou, the famous clay village known around the world. You have plenty of time to explore Aït Ben Haddou at your own rhythm, walking through narrow alleys and small stone doorways while feeling the soft desert air around you. As you climb to the top of the ksar, the valley stretches wide below palm trees, mountains, old caravan paths, and warm southern light.
