Overview:
Live The Sahara The Way We Do
Our 2 Nights Camel Trekking in Merzouga desert is an invitation to experience the Sahara as it has been lived for generations. This is not simply a camel trek across the dunes; it’s a chance to share the rhythm of desert life with the local people who call Erg Chebbi home. Born and raised in Merzouga, we’ve grown up following these ancient paths, watching the changing colours of the dunes, and learning the traditions of the Sahara from our parents and grandparents.
For two unforgettable days, you’ll travel slowly by camel through the golden dunes, away from roads and crowds, discovering places that remain untouched by modern life. You’ll enjoy sunsets and sunrises from the highest dunes, share traditional Moroccan meals prepared in the desert, gather around the campfire with Berber music, and sleep beneath one of the clearest night skies in the world. Along the way, there may even be the chance to spot desert wildlife, including the elusive fennec fox, whose footprints are sometimes found in the early morning sand.
At Morocco Desert Safari, we don’t just guide visitors through the Sahara we share the life we’ve always known. Every camel trek is led with the knowledge, traditions, and hospitality passed down through generations of local Berber families. Our hope is that you leave Merzouga not only with beautiful photographs, but with a genuine understanding of the desert, its people, and a way of life that continues to thrive among the dunes of the Moroccan Sahara.

Day 1 – Begin Your 2 Nights Camel Trekking in Merzouga desert
We start our journey gently, meeting you at our riad in Merzouga village, where you can leave your car in a safe parking area and prepare only the things you’ll need for your 2 night camel trekking in Merzouga Sahara Desert. This is the moment when your real desert adventure begins.
In the late afternoon, about two hours before sunset, we begin our camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes, riding slowly toward the heart of the Sahara. The camel ride is peaceful and calming, giving you time to feel the soft sand, the warm light, and the silence of the desert.
After around one hour, we reach a high dune where the view is truly breathtaking. Here, you can enjoy the golden hour, the most magical moment of the day, as the sun paints the dunes in warm colors. If you like, you can also try sandboarding, a fun way to slide down the soft sand.
Once the sun sets, we continue our camel ride for another gentle 30 minutes, heading deeper into the dunes toward our desert camp. When you arrive, we welcome you with a warm glass of Moroccan mint tea and friendly smiles.
You can relax in your private tent, rest, or simply sit outside and enjoy the calm of the evening until dinner is served.
After dinner, we gather around the campfire for Berber music, traditional drumming, and desert stories told by locals who grew up in this land. The sky above you will be filled with stars, clear, bright, and unforgettable.
Later, you can return to your comfortable private tent for a peaceful night surrounded by the quiet magic of the Sahara
Day 2 - A Peaceful Day Deep in the Erg Chebbi Dunes
On the second day of our 2 nights camel trekking in Merzouga desert, we gently recommend waking up early to enjoy one of the most beautiful sights in the Sahara, the sunrise over the dunes. The morning light is soft, calm, and full of magic. After watching the sunrise, you will enjoy a fresh breakfast at the camp before beginning the next part of your journey.
We continue our adventure by taking the camels deeper into the Erg Chebbi dunes. You can choose to ride your camel or walk alongside; both ways are peaceful and beautiful. If luck comes in our way, we can meet some wild desert animals as the desert fox, sand fish … We spend a few relaxing hours crossing the golden dunes until we reach a quiet oasis, a hidden place surrounded by trees and soft sand.
Here, we prepare a traditional picnic lunch in the shade of the trees, giving you time to rest, explore, and enjoy the silence of the desert, as you can hike one of the highest dunes in Erg Chebbi to see and enjoy the beautiful view over the dunes.
After relaxing at the oasis, we continue our camel trek for about one more hour. Along the way, we stop at one of the most beautiful spots in the dunes to enjoy the sunset, a warm moment when the Sahara glows in orange and gold.
When we arrive at the second desert camp, you will be welcomed with friendly smiles, a warm atmosphere, and a delicious Moroccan Berber dinner. Your private tent will be ready with comfortable bedding so you can rest peacefully after a full day of desert beauty.
Day 3 - A Gentle Return from the Dunes
On the third morning, after enjoying a peaceful breakfast in the desert, we began our journey back. If you would like to continue the adventure, you can ride the camel again across the soft dunes and slowly return to the starting point, a calm and beautiful ride that lets you enjoy the Sahara one last time.
If you prefer a quicker return, we can bring you back directly to Merzouga village by 4×4, so you arrive comfortably and safely.
This is where your 2 night camel trekking in Merzouga desert comes to an end with a heart full of memories, quiet moments, and the gentle magic of the Sahara that stays with you long after you leave.
