Day by Day Itinerary Your 3 day tour from fes to desert in merzouga

Day 1 - Fes to Merzouga: Mountains, Cedar Forest, Sunset Camel Ride

We start the day with an early pick up from your hotel or riad in Fes. As we leave the city behind, you will notice the scenery changing from the old medina walls to the fresh, green landscapes of the Middle Atlas Mountains.

Our first stop is the charming town of Ifrane, known as “Little Switzerland” for its clean streets and European style houses. You can enjoy a short walk here, breathe the cool mountain air, and take a few photos.

We then continue our journey to the Cedar Forest of Azrou, home to the friendly Barbary macaque monkeys. This is a perfect moment for you to stretch your legs, meet the monkeys, and enjoy the calm of the tall cedar trees.

After lunch in Midelt, we drive through wide open landscapes, mountains, stone villages, and long valleys that show you a peaceful side of Morocco. Soon, we reach the impressive Ziz Valley, famous for its palm groves and ancient kasbahs.

By late afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, where the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi appear like a dream. Here, you will meet your camel guide and begin a gentle sunset camel ride across the dunes. The warm evening light, the silence, and the slow pace create a magical moment you will always remember.

We welcome you to our comfortable standard or luxury desert camp, where a warm dinner, Berber music, and a sky full of bright stars await you.

Day 2 - Full Sahara Experience: Oasis, Nomad Families, Fossils Dunes

We begin our second day right from our desert camp, surrounded by the soft morning light of the dunes. After a relaxing breakfast, our 4×4 desert adventure begins.

Our first visit is a peaceful oasis hidden at the edge of the dunes. Here, you will see how local families grow their crops and water their fields using traditional irrigation systems that have been used for generations. It’s a quiet place, full of green life in the middle of the desert.

We then continue our journey to the famous Gnawa village, where you can enjoy traditional music played by local artists. Their rhythms, stories, and warm smiles make this visit a special cultural moment.

After that, we drive toward the old mines and fossil areas. This part of the Sahara is rich with ancient stones and fossils that tell the story of a time when this land was covered by the ocean. You will have time to walk around, take photos, and discover beautiful fossils shaped over millions of years.

Next, our 4×4 crosses the entire Erg Chebbi dune area, moving from one side of the desert to the other. The scenery here is truly breathtaking  golden dunes, endless silence, and soft sand waves shaped by the wind.

At the far side of the dunes, we meet local nomad families who still live in traditional tents. You can sit with them, share a cup of tea, and learn about their simple and beautiful desert lifestyle. This is one of the most meaningful moments of the day.

In the afternoon, we return to our comfortable riad beside the dunes, where you can rest, shower, enjoy tea, or walk gently on the sand before dinner.
Here, you will spend a lovely and peaceful night, close to the heart of the Sahara.

Accommodation: Riad near the dunes of Merzouga

Day 3 - Return to Fes: Ziz Valley, Atlas Mountains Goodbye to the Sahara

After breakfast at our riad beside the dunes, we begin our journey back toward Fes. The road is long, but it is full of changing landscapes, small towns, and peaceful valleys that make the ride feel calm and beautiful.

As we leave Merzouga, the dunes slowly disappear and the land opens into wide desert plains. Soon, we reach the Ziz Valley, where thousands of palm trees line the river. From this direction, the view looks completely different, softer, greener, and full of traditional villages built from clay.
We stop here for photos and a moment to enjoy the fresh valley breeze.

We continue our drive toward Midelt, crossing quiet mountain roads where you can see shepherds with their flocks and simple Berber homes scattered across the hills.
Your driver is always happy to stop for pictures, a cup of coffee, or a short walk whenever you like.

As we enter the Middle Atlas Mountains, the scenery becomes cooler and greener. We pass by the cedar forests of Azrou again, and if we are lucky, we may see a few monkeys playing along the road. The mountain air here is refreshing and peaceful.

By late afternoon or early evening, we arrive in Fes. Your driver will take you directly to your hotel or riad, help you with your bags, and say goodbye with warmth and gratitude.

Your journey ends here, but the memories of the Sahara, the dunes, the sky full of stars, the nomads, and the silence will stay with you for a long time.

End of the tour, thank you for traveling with us.
